Yeah. Hungry beasties more animal than human. But the scarier ones are the ones who do think like humans.
[ A sigh as he thinks of all the Sublimati he's encountered in the past. The ones in the Blood Mask's forces in the War. The ones he encountered in the years after. What was the easiest way to describe what they were ]
Some of them inspired urban legends or myth. Others fashioned themselves after them. [ A drag of his cigarette ] Think the Boogieman from The Real Ghosbuters, Speilberg's the It, or Freddie Kreuger. [ A beat ] On supernatural steroids.
I dislike them. [ But as he says so, Brig hefts Gintoki off his back ] But this guy, Sadaharu, and the Pandoran I met during my Zangyaku initiation, remind me that it isn't what we are that defines us. [ He looks at Kaz with that optimistic thoughtful look of his ] It's who we choose to be.
[ Brig pulls this little one he considers Brother close, an arm over his shoulder, hoping it'll comfort him. ]
Keep choosing to live. Like you always have. [ Brig says that softly. And keeps silent after. Sometimes, there were no other words. And all you could do was stand beside a Battle-Brother. ]
