[Actually, he could, but it's not until the next day that he manages to ring her.

Between her and Leo, Kaz is less worried about Jill worrying about him. But then, his best friends worry about him regardless. So have Karlo Antonio calling you at a possibly ungodly hour.]

[And there's the call she was waiting for. She wasn't too worried, really: she knows you're in good hands. What she's actually concerned about is how you're personally doing. Talking helps her get a read of that.]

[That greeting is bright and cheerful, typical of Jill. She's still up, of course: the Pride just wrapped up a small investigation.]

[He's glad to hear that in your voice, that you probably aren't too worried by the sound of things.]

So there's probably a line of people waiting to either hug me, punch me or kill me... Again.

[His cheek still stings a little.]

Just so you know, Yulia is just as deadly sans knives. Slapped the living daylights out of me as soon as I came back.

Don't worry. I'll patiently wait for my turn to hug you really tight.

[He's quiet for a second.]

I wouldn't miss that for the world.

I'm sure you can if, let's say, it was a toss-up between me and Nico.

[Yep, wibbly now. He hasn't contacted his boyfriend.]

[That wibbly tone in his voice is very suggestive, Jill, of the fact that he has no idea how to face the man he loves after dying and coming back.]

[She's saying it in that gentle suggestion kind of tone that is pretty much her version of an order.]

I... I'd rather actually see him.

[Well, there's something in tone, Jill. Something wistful, because he nearly lost his life.]

Then go and see him?

[It shouldn't be hard. Japan and the Philippines aren't far from each other, and Falner's got access points.]

[He gets quiet. This is Nico, Jill. Of all the things in this world, he can't handle seeing Nico sad.]

I'm a goner when it comes to him, Jill. I don't think I can do a second life without him, so... Yeah, I'm gonna see him... and I'm gonna ask him to marry me.

[There's a gigglesnort at the other end of the line and then Kaz saying simply:]

You at my wedding is a given. Same goes for Mia, and Leo... And the rest of the Pride.

[He's quiet for a second, before you hear him move.]

I'm gonna let you go now. See you back at home, okay? Give my love to the rest of the Pride, and Mia.
